    Description

    An unusual vintage viol-type instrument, probably early 20th century. Unsure if intended as a playable instrument or as a prop. Proportions are not right, fret spacing is not right, but internal construction appears to be reasonably correct. Branded “J. Tannenbaum” at least twice internally. Has texturized cross-hatch striations over entirety of instrument except for the neck—difficult to ascertain if this is scratched into the wood or on an overlaid thick paint-like finish. Close inspection shows back and ribs of maple; top of spruce following typical violin making conventions.
