    Description

Lovely sterling and guilloche enamel nail buffer. It has a classic Thomae hand painted enamel floral with a background color of a beautiful sapphire blue. The enamel is in excellent condition-no damage or repairs. You need to use a loupe or run your fingers over it to see any extremely minute wear from age/usage. The sterling is also excellent with no damage or repairs. Just some of that normal scuff from old formula cleaners and usage. The buffing fabric is soft and smooth on the base-some stiffness on side edges. It shows some soiling thru out-see photos.  Only thing to report is three tiny splits ( 1/10", 3/32", 3/16") - two on one side, one on the other of the edge fabric just under sterling top rim - enlarge photos 5 & 6. Buffer measures 5" long x 1 3/8" widest point x 1 5/8" deep at center. Marks are on one rim close to the end point - see photo. They read: STERLING, The Thomae Co. hallmark.
The Thomae Co. originated in approx. 1920. It changed it's name to Charles Thomae & Son Inc. in approx. 1946. I found where it was still in business in 2005 and appears later but is now closed. I found info that the Incorporation of the company had a dissolution date of June 30th. 2017, quite possible due to a severe illness of Charles F. Thomae who passed at the age of 87 in April of 2019.
We are seniors and as my husband has health problems I try to only do errands, like Ebay shipping, on Tues. and Fridays.
