Description
Offered for your consideration is an antique Victorian era  sterling silver snuff set brush case. This set was manufactured in New York City by Perry-Austen Mfg Co. and Pat May 28, 1901. Underneath the patent date is CRAVEN.
The snuff case was part of the Victorian/Edwardian era. It comes with its original leather pouch. The pouch has a slit at the bottom of the case so does not close.
The snuff box measures 4 1/4" tall x 2 1/2" wide. It has an oval beveled mirror in the center . The mirror is solidly in tact and shows wear. At the top is a  finger nail file ,1 snuff utinsel and one small silver comb .The mirror was also used for the tabacco. During this era, people were known to use very little physical space , but get the most out of it that they could and this case is no exception.
At the top of the box are 2 small knobs. One knob will help to open the inside of the case. The second knob when pushed, raises the bristles to the brush. The brush was used for primping purposes and to brush the excess snuff from the men.
There is wear throughout the set. It has been tested and it is sterling. The decorations on the edges on both front and back have a gold wash.
I have only seen. one other like it and it did not have the complete set. It was listed on Worth Point. It is a RARE FIND so don't miss out on bidding early!!  It is truly a treasure for the collector.
