    Description

Up for bid is a fine quality silver handle brush or whisk broom with cherub decoration.  The brush is 6 5/8 inches long by 2 inches wide.  The handle is fully gilded and has hand-chased decoration of cupids and flowers on both sides.  The tapered handle has additional chased flowers around the tip.  The brush has original 2 3/4 inch bristles.  The brush is monogrammed “EMF” on the tip of the handle.  The brush is stamped “STERLING” on the side, but I suspect the mark was added much later.  The piece likely dates to the mid 19
    th
C or earlier.  The gauge of the silver seems to be unusually thick and substantial, and it has old gilding.  It is also hand chased, which is unusual in a brush.
Condition on the brush is fairly good.  There are some minor dings and normal wear from use.  A very fine old sterling brush!
