    Description

This has been the primary instrument that I have played professionally for the last year in church, orchestras and recordings..  It was originally purchased in an auction from England.  The label inside reads Johanes Christian Hammig 1779.  A local luthier confirmed that this cello is from the 18th century.  As you can see from the pictures, there is a neck graft.  Cellos from the 18th century were made with shorter necks.  In the 19th century, a few luthiers experimented with longer necks and players liked that more so players started bringing their instruments in to have the scroll removed and added to a longer neck.
Because of the age of this cello, there are multiple closed cracks as you can see in the diagram picture.  There was also a new strip of wood added to the back of the cello.  This was done professionally and correctly.  It fits perfect and there is no concern for it opening up.  There are some open cracks on the bass side ribs but there is no buzzing and does not affect the sound.
This cello has a warm beautiful tone and is very comfortable to play.  A carbon fiber tailpiece with fine tuners was recently added to this instrument.  The cello will be shipped with the sound post and bridge dropped for safety and inside a hard covered cello case.
Please feel free to reach out and request more pictures of any specific areas of the cello.  I tried to get as many good ones as I could to show where the open/closed cracks are.
Some people have asked if this cello has been confirmed to be made by this maker. The auction house confirmed that the cello is from south Germany where Johann Christian Hammig is from but could not confirm if he is the actual maker.  I didn’t purchase this cello for the purpose of reselling. I purchased it because of the sound it produced but was recently gifted another cello that I will be using.
Returns within 30 days will be allowed but original shipping fee of item will not be credited. Buyer will be responsible for return shipping and will be billed if there is any damage to the cello while in their possession.
