FEEDING TIMOTHY HAY CUBES TO RABBITS
Timothy Grass Hay is the most important part of a rabbit’s diet and should be provided at all times.   Any Vet will advise that rabbits should be allowed as much timothy grass hay as they want, to Prevent Stasis, for Weight Control and for Proper Teeth Maintenance.  Hay provides a number of important things for your rabbit's health: essential fiber to maintain normal gastrointestinal motility; proteins, vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates (sun-dried hay has more retained nutrients than commercially dried hay); healthy chewing activity to promote proper wear of the teeth.  Timothy grass hay is preferred over alfalfa hay because grass hay is lower in calories and calcium (Commercial pellets contain a large portion of alfalfa hay).  Hay can be given to your pet in a variety of ways including in a feeder rack attached to the side of the cage, in a box or basket within the cage or exercise area, or even placed in the litter box.  Rabbits often pass stools when they are eating and placing some cubes in the litter box can help with bathroom training.  Rabbits will not eat soiled hay, so you need not worry.  Replenish as needed.
FarmerDave recommends 100% timothy hay cubes as a good alternative to loose hay for Adult Mature Rabbits. Its high fiber will help to prevent stasis and to promote proper teeth wear, and its low fat content will prevent obesity.
If your pet is a Younger Rabbit or Bunny, then FarmerDave recommends the 2nd cut hay because it is leafier and with increased nutrition.
Hay and cubes may be stored for many months, and even up to a year when kept in a consistently cool/cold place that is dry and not in the light.
