Vintage Matching FAMILY CREST COAT OF ARMS FRAMED LEATHER JACKET Zeiner German Germany
A framed coat of arms from the German Zeiner family and a leather jacket with the same coat of arms on the left breast.
We are pleased to offer this lot of Zeiner family history in the form of a framed family crest. This lot also includes a leather jacket bearing the same family crest, with a nylon lining. The framed crest we believe is done partially with gold and silver thread.
This surname of ZEINER is a German occupational name for an official responsible for collecting, on behalf of the lord of the manor, tithes of agricultural produce owed as rent. The more prosperous tenants had to contribute wine and corn, those with smaller holdings, fruit, vegetables, milk, cheese, beer and poultry. The Old German term for this official was ZEHENDOERE. The surname is most common in Bavaria, Austria, Switzerland and Wurttemberg.
A coat of arms is a unique heraldic design on a shield or escutcheon or on a surcoat or tabard used to cover and protect armor and to identify the wearer. Thus the term is often stated as "coat-armor", because it was anciently displayed on the front of a coat of cloth.
Despite no widespread regulation, and even with a lack in many cases of national-level regulation, heraldry has remained rather consistent across Europe, where traditions alone have governed the design and use of arms. Unlike seals and other general emblems, heraldic achievements have a formal description called a blazon, expressed in a jargon that allows for consistency in heraldic depictions.
In the 21st century, coats of arms are still in use by a variety of institutions and individuals; for example, universities have guidelines on how their coats of arms may be used, and protect their use as trademarks. Many societies exist that also aid in the design and registration of personal arms, and some nations, like England and Scotland, still maintain to this day the medieval authorities that grant and regulate arms.
Framed and under glass, the Zeiner family crest measures 16 inches high by 13 3/4 inches wide and is 2 inches thick. The leather coat does not have the size listed on it, but its measurements are 18 inches shoulder to shoulder, 24 inches shoulder to sleeve, and has a total length of 25 inches. The lot weighs 6 1/2 pounds.
The frame has some chips on its edges and some of the original paint has rubbed off. The frame, has, however protected the crest well. The crest is intact and does not have any tears or sun bleaching. Similarly, the glass has no cracks or chips. The jacket's leather outer and inner nylon lining are in very good condition, and the jacket itself does not seem to have been worn much, if at all. The cuffs and the bottom of the jacket are in great condition.
For those looking to include the pride of family in their home and on their person, this lot is a great way to go!
