Description
Daniel Foster Cello, 1986.I have a wonderful Daniel Foster Cello that has been mine for more than 30 years - it has been played regularly as recently as 3 years ago by a local high school/regional player that I had loaned it to. Mr. Foster went through the instrument in about 2004/2005. He was always available for questions and to review set-up suggestions until his passing in 2018.
The pictures can be zoomed and examined. The instrument is in excellent condition but it has been played and shows some nicks and small areas around given the age and use. It comes with a good white hardshell case.
It was bought from Francis Morris Violins in West Stockbridge, MA in 1992. The instrument had been re-worked by Mr. Foster between the initial crafting in 1986 and when I purchased it in 1992. You will see two stress cracks along the front at the top near the fingerboard and on the bottom around the peg/bridge. These were not due to any damage but appeared over the use of the instrument. They were examined, the top was removed and they were repaired, and the instrument was further refined all by Mr. Foster at that time in 2005. The only repairs and work on the instrument have been by the maker, Mr. Foster.
Instruments of his are hard to find, particularly this seasoned. Here is a much newer version for sale from a web search
