Cello Jay Haide J.B. Vuillaume Model 2018 Master Copy European Woods 4/4

Description

A masterful cello created in 2018 by Ifshin Violins for the Jay Haide line of instruments, this copy of a Jean Baptiste Vuillaume cello is the pinnacle of instruments offered by the company. I purchased this cello in January 2019 from a well-respected luthier. It has served as my performing cello since then.
It has an amazing sound, from the rich bass to the powerful upper registers. Even though it is a newer instrument, it has been played a great deal, from chamber music concerts to symphonic performances with no problems. The warmth and tonality have been a revelation to me, since I had no idea an instrument of this modern vintage would sound so fabulous, easily the equal of cellos costing ten times as much.
The wood used in its construction is noted as being from Europe: maple for the back, sides, neck and scroll and spruce for the top. Maple bridge carved by Ronald Sachs, ebony fingerboard and pegs. The tailpiece is a wonder of engineering: the Tonal Tailpiece made of carbon fiber with titanium tuners and a kevlar cord.  The endpin is a 16.5" hollow steel tube with steel point. There are a few minor scratches on the back and top, mere superficial marks that add character to an instrument that has been used in concertizing.
