A fabulous mid 19th century Old Paris Porcelain green bordered 9 1/4" inch gilt plate with large 1 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch coat of arms of either the Whitney or the Skidmore family, or perhaps marking a marriage of the two. Bearing the Whitney family motto VOLENS ET VALENS, the coat of arms is clearly that of the Skidmore family with three stirrups and a chevron.
